Assignment: Now that you have written your questions for your newspaper article, you need to start doing research on them. What information do you need to look up on the internet?  Make sure you write the sources that you used in your notebook (Story Drafts Section) so that I will know where you got your information. remember that first hand sources (teachers, students, etc.) are the most important.  You should be ready to start typing your article next week.  Deadline for the 500 words is September 21st.  We will be editing that day in class!

Your article should have a strong introduction, a body that gives the meat of the inforamtion and then a conclusion.  You should flow through the entire story and not get off-topic.  Make sure that you are targeting what you need to answer as I will be looking back at what you are writing and comparing it to your 5WH.

If you are doing a section that does not require an actual article to be written (cartoon, jokes, survey, Middle School tips), then please be working on what you need to do.  If you need to schedule a time for an interview with a teacher/administrator, please see me before you go.

Test Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, Friday, September 9th, will have our first test in Pre-Algebra.  I will be having a Study Session from 7:30 to 8:15 am and I am inviting all of my Pre-Algebra students.  Remember to bring your brain and your breakfast as this will be a fast-paced session to answer all of your pending questions about the upcoming test.

Remember that your Chapter 1 Review Sheet and Week 3 Bellringers are due tomorrow!

Flipped Pre-Algebra: You will need to watch Two-Step Equations tonight. Your notes need to consist of writing down two examples from the video.  Write down each step of the examples!

Newspaper 9/7

Journal: Open up Microsoft Word. Type your name at the top as well as today's date.  Title your Journal Prompt "Four Day School Week" and answer the following in at least 7 sentences.  What do you think about going to a four day school week? What are the benefits? What are the cons?

Remember to only use 12 or 14 point font for this in Tahoma or Times New Roman font.  When you are finished, print the document. I will be taking a grade on it today.  You have until 10:55 am to work on this.

When you finish, go back and continue to work on your 5WH with your partner in your story drafts section of your spiral.

Today, we will be creating out Teacher Questions for our interviews.  Remember, your interview is due NEXT WEDNESDAY.  The final copy of your Interview Transcript will be a test grade just like your first interview.

We will also be thinking of a name for our school newspaper.  Our first deadline for articles is September 21st. That means that the articles that you are working on in class right now will need to be completely written, edited, approved by me and ready to by the 21st.  We will then spend the next day formatting the articles and getting things done to pass out on the 23rd.

First Article Assignment!

Journal: Free Write on any topic of your choice in your Spiral. (First section, make sure it has a date and a
title).

Partners: Here is a list of the First Six Week's Partners for Newspaper Staff.  You will be working with this person EVERY day to create articles, cartoons, etc. for our upcoming newspaper.  Our first newspaper deadline is Wednesday, September 21st. I do expect to have at least one item from each set of partners for the paper. It can be an article, photo, cartoon, etc.  Some of your teacher interviews will be used as well.

Today you will create a list of AT LEAST 10 possible topics that you want to write about with your partner. Write the list in your spiral in Section 3.  The title for this needs to be Story Ideas.

When you have completed your list, search the internet to find other articles that have been written that are similar to your topics.  Read the articles and select one topic that you really think you could write an outstanding article about.  You will need to get this topic approved by me before you start writing.  If another group picks the same topic, the first group will get the topic and you will have to pick another one.

Once you have gotten your topic approved, start a 5WH on the same page (or the next) in your spirals. BOTH PARTNERS HAVE TO WRITE EVERYTHING!

-Who does this topic involve? Who will you interview about this topic?
-What is the topic of interest that you are writing about? What does it mean to you?
-When have you been affected by this?  When will this occur?
-Where will you find out more information about this?  Where will you go to see this happen?
-Why do you want to write about this? Why is it important? Why do others need to know more about it?
-How will you go about finding information about this?

You can include more information than just these questions.  I actually encourage it! :)

This needs to be done today.  We will be moving on with our stories and research on Wednesday when I see you again.

Friday Flipped Homework

Okay Flippers, don't forget that you have two videos to watch this weekend. For your notes, I simply want you to write down 2 examples from each video. I want EVERY step! We will go over this on Tuesday. Don't forget! :)

(P.S. If you are in my 8th period class and you want to go ahead and watch these, leave a comment and let me know 3 things you learned and you will get to choose 3 problems to omit from your assignment on Tuesday)
