Benchmarks and TAKS Time!

We have finally finished a solid block of three days of working on our benchmarks. There are still some students who didn’t finish and they MUST stay after tomorrow afternoon to finish this as I can’t allow another day of class to work on this.

We are moving on with our Measurement Unit tomorrow.  We will work part of the packet together and the remainder will be homework!  We will grade it in class on Friday as well as the Practice Sheet.  They will get their Practice Sheet tomorrow and have a decent amount of time to work on it. If they do not finish, it will be able to go home with them to finish and bring back on Friday. This will become our weekly routine.

Remember that I will be out again this Friday. Ms. Parr will be my substitute once again. For the most part my classes did very well last week and I expect nothing but the best this week as well.

I hope you are each having a great week.  We are down to 23 instructional days until the TAKS test! Next week I will be handing out the calendar for them to keep with them containing our topics for the next few weeks. I will also attach it in an email one day next week as well.

Monday 1/24/2011

Welcome back! We finally have our first full week of the semester. Remember, TAKS tutoring is Tuesday and Thursday this week and I will have academic tutoring on Monday since I do not have a meeting.

Today we are working on Translations, Rotations, Reflections and Dilations. It is important that your child have map pencils in class from here on out because of the detail in our work. I will be giving larger packets and we will be working on them over the course of several days so also a need for organization and keeping up with our assignments.

We will do page 1 and 2 in the packet today during class and page 3 will be homework.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will do page 4 and 5 in class and have another assignment as well.

Please continue to stress the importance of paying attention in class as well as checking the behavior of themselves and their neighbors in a silent and respectful manner.

I appreciate all that you do and I truly see our year getting better and better.

Today's Classwork and Homework

Tonight, my classes have p. 5 and 6 in their Pythagorean Theorem packet to complete.  I did not take last night’s homework for a grade but we did go over it in class and I helped them understand how to complete #10-11 that several had trouble with.  I did give them 20 minutes in class today to work on their homework so it might be completed or at least started.

Also, tomorrow is the last day to get extra credit on their Practice Sheet by turning it in early.  It is due at the latest on Friday.  We will be taking a grade on tonight’s homework as well.

Your student should also be bringing home their report card, OFYP letter and tutoring letter (if needed) today.  Some students will not show Math tutoring because I will be tutoring them during the day during Homeroom.  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me or call me at school.

Welcome Back!

I am so happy to be back at school.  Today in class we reviewed my classroom expectations and procedures.  Each student wrote these out on a piece of yellow paper to keep handy in their binder.  As an extra incentive, I told them that if they took them home and got their parent to read over and sign it, then they would get a free 100 to start the six weeks off with!  Who couldn’t use a FREE 100?

Also, we started working on Pythagorean Theorem.  Homework tonight was to finish page 3 and 4 of the packet as we will be checking it in class tomorrow.  Just a heads up, it is a grade and a zero will be given if it is not completed.

I wanted to wish all of my students and their families Happy Holidays!  I hope that you take the two week break and refresh your bodies and minds.  Once we return we will be hot and heavy on the downhill slide towards the TAKS test.  Love you all!
