More INB updates

Where has the time gone? We are already in our 3rd week of school and progress reports go home on Friday! Oh my!

Tomorrow and Wednesday I will be checking notebooks for this six weeks. I will be looking for completeness, table of contents being up to date and your Unit 1 Title Page. More examples of what we have done in class are below. You should have through page 19 filled in.

Unit 1 Cover Sheet pg. 10

2nd Vocab Word (pg. 14) **Page 15 will also be vocabulary)
Comparing and Ordering Notes (pg. 16)

Also, if you are absent, don't forget to check out the Class Handouts folder for the dates you are absent to get copies of what you missed. As soon as all the Graded Paper files have names on them, you will be able to track your grades by checking your file.

If you need to come to tutorials this week, remember that my times are as follows:

Tuesday 3:45-4:30 pm
Wednesday and Thursday: 8:00 am-8:25 am

Conversions of Rational Numbers

Today we worked on Rational Number Conversions with Fractions, Decimals and Percents. We created the Folded Interactive Object (I was informed "Foldable" is a trademarked word) below to use as a resource when working on conversions of Rational Numbers. It should be attached to page 17 in your INB. If you need to complete your Folded Interactive Object, feel free to click the picture below to make it bigger so you can read what to fill in.

Our bellringer when we came in today consisted of a review of the vocabulary we have learned. Each student had the option to answer either "What is an Integer?" or "How do we use integers?" I think the compilation they came up with over the day (all 96 of them) turned out great!

Have a wonderful 3-day weekend! I will see you all back on Tuesday! Don't forget, we have a notebook quiz on Tuesday/Wednesday and your projects are due as well! :)

Vocabulary Galore!

Today as part of our Interactive Notebook, we added the previous two items that needed to be added as well as learned out first vocabulary word for this unit. Integers!

Integers Frayer Model- pg. 14
Open Frayer Model Definiton

As we keep going through out INB, we are learning more and more how it is helping us stay organized. Each student is doing so well and I know these will be key to their learning this year.

Just a heads up: The first INB check will be on September 11-12th in class. There is a rubric on page 2 that you can use to make sure that you are on track to get the desired grade!

Also, we will be having our first Notebook Quiz on Tuesday/Wednesday Sept. 4-5th (depending on the class period). All students will be able to use their notes from their notebook to answer their quiz!

Wow, Already Tuesday?

Welcome back to the 2012-2013 School Year at Crandall Middle School. We have already had a great first two days and I see so much potential for the rest of the school year.

Today, we started working in our Interactive Notebooks (INBs) in my math classes. I am adding photos of each page so those that are absent or did not complete it in class.

Cover Page (pg. 1)
Grading Rubric (pg. 2)
Table of Contents (p.3-6)

Math Goals for 2012-2013 (p. 9) ***ADDING THURSDAY***
Multiplication Chart (p.10) ***ADDING THURSDAY***

Technical Reading Strategies (p. 12)

Word Problem Practice (p. 13)

Don't forget that you do have assignments due! Word Problem Homework (1st, 3rd and 8th) is due on Friday. You must show your strategies that we are working on in class.

"Math About Me" is our first project this year. This is due on Friday for 2nd and 7th and due on Tues/Wed for 1st, 3rd and 8th. My example project can be seen below. Remember, you must have 8 facts about yourself written in a mathematical format. This can include basic operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) but can also include exponents and parenthesis. This is the first test grade for the 1st Six Weeks. Remember that color is also important!

Bring on 2012-2013 School Year!

Wow, another summer is flying by and we are so close to starting back to school. I am so ready for this coming school year. Not only because I am ready to start working again and start fresh, but I'm also ready to tackle my new classes.

This year, I will be teaching 7th Grade Math, Resource Math and Newspaper. Whew! I will be all over and am so excited about each and every bit of it. I started working on my plans before we even got out of school in June. Yep, I'm one of those crazy, organized teachers so get ready for it!

I look forward to being in the new wing, having new students (and some returning in Newspaper), and new school supplies!

Just a heads up, all 7th grade Math students need two green spirals and a green 2-braded folder. We will be using our spirals EVERY DAY as an Interactive Notebook so it is crucial that you have these within the first couple of days of school.
