More Proportion Help
Ratios and Proportions
We are still moving on with our Ratio and Proportions unit. Please take time to go and watch the videos that I put in the last blog post. If you do a 3-2-1 response on the blog, you can get 10 points extra credit. YOU MUST WRITE SOMETHING MEANINGFUL in your response!
There is also some practice that you can do as well:

Moving on in Pre-Algebra
Today we finished up our benchmarks and we will be checking them together in class on Tuesday/Wednesday. Starting on Thursday we will be covering Ratios and Equivalent Fractions. I will not be in class on Thursday and this will be an investigative lesson so that students are working in partners together to discover the material.
I have found some videos below that cover the new topics. Remember a 3-2-1 response left on the blog is worth an extra 10 points. To receive the extra credit, you must respond by Friday, October 14th. All comments left after that day will not be considered for extra credit.
Simplifying Rates and Ratios
Introduction to Ratios
Ratio Problem with Basic Algebra
Writing Proportions
Please continue to work on your number operations (fractions, decimals, percents, ordering numbers, basic operations with decimals, etc.) at home. These are crucial and we are still seeing a lot of weakness in this area.

News 2 You 10/5
Journal: Today, I want you to first go and answer the anonymous poll about who you think should be our Newspaper Editor. Based on the results of the poll, I will choose 2 students to be the editor. We will start filling out some roles in the class as we keep moving on.
Next, I want you to write in your spiral 7-10 sentences answering the question, "What is the difference between school and life?"
Assignment: First, you will need to complete your Webquest. You will then need to print off the papers that go with the webquest and staple them together. This is your first test grade this Six Weeks.
When you finish the Webquest and have turned your papers in, you will need to make sure you have completed your 5WH. I will be checking them tomorrow to give you a participation grade.
The last thing that you will need to work on is you will begin doing research for your assigned topic. Based on your list from Monday, the editors will be choosing who will be writing on each topic. This is part of their responsibilities.
Create an outline of what you will address in your topic together with your partner. This will be due by Friday.

Need Some Practice?
I found a great site for extra practice on some of the stuff we have been doing in class. Please check out Precision Teaching Resources. You will not only get the worksheet for some practice but it will also have the answers so that you can check them when you are done.
If you do any of this work at home, let me know as I would love to see it! :)

Tuesday and Wednesday 10/5-10/6
We are testing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Make sure that you have your Study Guide to turn in. This will be given for a participation grade depending on the amount that you completed. You had plenty of time in class on Monday and then Monday night to finish this.
Also, on Thursday and Friday we will be benchmark testing. At this point we are seeing quite a few struggles with what we are teaching and haven't gotten into the true 8th grade material. We need to find out where the problem lies and what to do about it before we can move on with our material.
Please get a good night of sleep and relax on benchmark days. This is not there to stress you out but to determine your achievement level.
