Pre-Algebra:
Videos: Level 1 Exponents; Level 2 Exponents; and Scientific Notation 1
**Today I want you to do a 3-2-1 response to each video. You will probably take two pages in your comp book for these notes. Exponents are somewhat new but Scientific Notation should be a review.
Chapter 2 Vocabulary is due on Thursday, 9/22.
Chapter 2 Review is due on Friday, 9/23.
Chapter 2 Test is Friday, 9/23.
Tomorrow I will be posting a list of my favorite iPhone/iTouch apps that you can use to help you in Math. I will also link them to the side so that you can always find them.
Tutoring will be tomorrow morning! Meet me at the Black and Gold stairs in the morning and I will come get you at 7:45 am.

ReplyDeleteAdding Of rational numbers video 123,
1. If denominators are the same just add numerators
2. If denominators are different find least common denominator
3. Multiply numerator by the same number you multiplied the denominator by.
1.can you use a number less than what the denominator is? Say the denominator is 100 and 10 Can the least common mulrtiple be 10?
2.can you add a mixed number with a fraction?
1.The denominator has to be equivalent .This suck with me beause equivalent is a big word and it catches my attention

ReplyDeleteLevel 2 exponents 1,2,3
1. Negative Exponents mean take the inverse number of the base (big Number)
2. If your base number is a fraction still take the inverse number and change the exponent to positive and multiply
3. OR you could take the exponent and make it positive then turn it in to a fraction and the calculate the answer.
1Is it easier to do the operation by making it a fraction first or second?
2why cant you just multiply and add the negative sign at the end?
1The whole purpose is to get rid of the negative exponent

ReplyDeleteLevel one exponents
3,Exponents are the base number time itself the number that is the exponent.
2,If you have a negative number in parenthesis then just multiply the base number by itself the amount of times that is in the exponent
1Any number times (multiplied by) zero is in fact zero
2.if you have a negative number times 0
what happens
1if the base number is negative does that mean the answer is negative?
1 exponents are easy its just a number multiplied by itself.

ReplyDeleteScientific notation.
3 to write something in scientific notation the number that you are multiplying has to be lless than ten.
2the number that you are multiplying by must be mmore than one
1The base of an exponent must be a power of ten.
2. can the exponent be a negative number?
1. Why does 10 to the power of 0 equal 1
1 writing things in scientific notation is just writing a really* big number with lots of zeros!

ReplyDeleteLevel 2 Exponets*
3. When using negative powers they are not whole numbers they're halves.
2.When finding the reciprocal you just flipp the numbers if fraction, but with whole number you put a one over it.
1.If you are doing a fractioned number with a negative pwer you answer will be an improper fraction.
2.Why are the negative powers half of a whole number?
1. If the base and the power are negative would'nt the answer be negative?
1. Positive and negative exponets are nothing alike.

ReplyDeleteScientific Notation 1.
3.YOu count how many zero's the number has and then the whole number next to it.
2.If you times it by exponets it will make the number even bigger.
1.You times the number you have by ten then add the zeros into exponets.
2. Why do we need to know this?
1.why do you times it by ten?
1. Scientific Notation is just a really big word that means puttin big numbers into smaller ones.
